Tips To Prepare For Your Engagement Session

Getting engaged is such an exciting time, and one of the best ways to celebrate this special moment in your life is through an engagement session! Not only does it provide you with beautiful photos to cherish, but it also gives you an opportunity to get comfortable in front of the camera before your big day. To help you make the most out of your engagement session, here are five tips to prepare for the shoot!

1. Choose a Meaningful Location

Selecting a location that holds significance to you as a couple can add a personal touch to your photos. It could be the place where you had your first date, where you actually got engaged, or just a picturesque spot that you both love! Consider the mood and scenery that you desire, whether it’s a scenic beach, a rustic countryside, or the busy streets of a city. Discuss your ideas with your photographer to find the perfect location!

2. Plan Your Outfits

What you wear during your engagement session can greatly influence the overall look and feel of your photos. Coordinate your outfits with your partner, aiming for a complementary color scheme or a cohesive style. It’s a good idea to avoid wearing clothing with busy patterns or logos, as they can be distracting in photographs. Also, consider the season and location when selecting your attire. I recommend leaning towards neutral colors to keep the focus on you and not your clothes! But remember, comfort is key so wear something that makes you feel confident!

3. Plan Your Poses and Expressions

While it’s important to capture the natural and spontaneous moments during your engagement session, it doesn’t hurt to plan a few poses and expressions in advance. While your photographer will guide you through prompts and poses to make you feel comfortable, I also recommend going on Pinterest and finding a few poses you really like that we can recreate! Find poses that feel comfortable and authentic to you, like holding hands, hugging, or even dancing. By planning ahead, you can feel more confident during the session and ensure that your photos reflect your unique connection as a couple.

4. Incorporate Personal Props or Themes

Bringing along personal items or props can add a unique touch to your engagement photos. Whether it’s a favorite book, a vintage bike, or even your pets, these props can help tell your story as a couple. Discuss your ideas with your photographer to see how they can be incorporated into the session creatively!

5. Relax and Have FUN

Probably the most important tip for a successful engagement session is to relax and just have fun. Remember that the purpose of these photos is to capture the love and joy between you and your partner. Trust in your photographer’s guidance and don’t be afraid to show your natural emotions. Laugh, cuddle, and enjoy this special time together, and let your photographer capture your authentic connection!

Engagement sessions are all about capturing this monumental time of your life and celebrating it, so don’t skip out on the opportunity! By following these tips to prepare for your engagement session, you will be able to create beautiful and meaningful photographs that will last a lifetime! So, get ready to showcase your love and celebrate this exciting time in your lives!

Kind Words

“If you’re here because you’re considering Wild Magnolia Photography, seriously– look no further. As someone who hates most pictures of myself, I was dragging my feet when it came to wedding/engagement photos. Brit made the process easy, stress-free, and fun our engagement shoot felt like a date. She has an incredible eye for color, detail, and angles, but most importantly: her gorgeous photos capture us so well, they don’t feel posed at all. 10/10 would recommend without hesitation.”
